ABOUT DOWNTOWN

There are plenty of places for you to park when you come Downtown. Whether for work, shopping, events or just to visit with friends, there are plenty of parking locations in Downtown. Or if you're not coming Downtown in your car, there's plenty of places to park your bike. The Municipality recently added 13 new bicycle racks in Downtown in response to a more than 30 percent increase in bike commuters since 2007.

New development in Downtown Anchorage.

New development in Downtown Anchorage is happening at a pace unlike anything we've seen since "Project 80s." The myriad projects underway or soon to be underway in Downtown Anchorage are part of a greater whole – a contemporary northern latitude city with amenities that facilitate a lively, vibrant community through out the entire year. Learn more about these projects at "Destination Downtown."

And the Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA) recently renewed its commitment to support public-private partnerships that link new parking development to private development projects. ACDA supports economic growth for Downtown Anchorage and wants to be a part of creative parking solutions.

Anchorage remains attractive for development.

Business Week magazine recently recognized Anchorage as one of the best cities in the U.S. for riding out the recession, citing the city's strong economy that feeds off the state's rich oil and natural gas supplies, U.S. military presence, and tourism.

Commercial real estate thriving in Anchorage.

Additionally, as real estate professionals recognize, commercial real estate development is thriving in Anchorage. While times are tough in the residential housing market, Anchorage's commercial real estate is thriving. New buildings popping up all over town suggest that Anchorage has lots of available office space. But it doesn't: Anchorage is drastically short of office space.
