2008 Annual Report:
To Members of the Downtown Improvement District
CHANGE was the word for Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd. in 2008: we moved into a new office, hired new staff members, had a new operations plan, and elected new Directors.
Some of the biggest changes we witnessed in downtown Anchorage were the improved security during the summer months through both an increase in the number of Security Ambassadors we put on the streets - thanks to a grant agreement with the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau - and through the introduction of APD foot patrols. These APD officers patrolled downtown on foot, interacting with residents, visitors, shop owners and every one else in downtown.
ADP also instituted operational changes that allowed us to improve service delivery throughout the Downtown Improvement District.By cross certifying our Ambassadors to do both Security and Maintenance functions, we were able to double our work force during snow & ice removal efforts throughout the DID.
2008 was a big year for events as well, the biggest of which was the 50th Anniversary of Statehood Celebration on 4th Avenue. This fun street festival covered 6 square blocks and featured entertainment at every corner, anchored by the International Firefighters Competition.
Looking ahead to 2009, especially considering the current economic uncertainty, ADP has adopted the catchphrase used by Anchorage Economic Development Corporation President Bill Popp at the 2008 AEDC Economic Outlook luncheon: "Flat is good." ADP does not anticipate any significant increases in overall revenue or expenses for 2009, which, considering the current economic situation, is good. Flat is good.
Operationally look for us to continue finding new improvements and efficiencies that will aloow us to deliver better service faster for our stakeholders in the DID. We look forward to another great year of events and activities in downtown and, as always, will continue to strive every day to keep downtown Anchorage Clean, Safe and Vital.
