Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd.’s annual Heart of Anchorage Awards event will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010, 6–9 pm, in the ConocoPhillips atrium. This extraordinary event highlights the hard work and dedication to excellence by honoring employees, leaders, and business owners in the downtown community. The achievements in our downtown community are tied to all of us. It takes a group effort to be successful in business. We hope that you feel the same way about our downtown community leaders, business owners and employees.

Heart of Anchorage Awards Vision & Goals

The intent of the Heart of Anchorage Awards is to pay tribute, honor and celebrate outstanding service and achievements of individuals, businesses and organizations in the downtown work community.

This awards program recognizes employees of businesses and organizations, from the janitor to the CEO, that help create an exciting and vibrant downtown, as well as an inviting destination for visitors, residents and the downtown community of workers.

Employees, managers, organizations and businesses that best symbolize the highest quality service are given the opportunity to be acknowledged through the nomination and award process.

All nominees are judged on performance that goes above and beyond normal job responsibilities with outstanding or unusual service to the visitor, customer and community.

Judging Process

Nomination packets will be reviewed and a panel of judges will select the winners. Judges will be directed to base their selections solely on the information provided in each nomination. The more complete the nomination packets the better chance the nominee has to be selected as a winner!

The Heart of Anchorage Awards: How They Work

This awards program is open to anyone who wishes to recognize an employee, volunteer, manager, business owner or organization leader for his or her outstanding performance. The only criterion is that the nominee must be employed with a member business or be a member in good standing with Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd. Want to nominate someone who works for a non- member? Encourage that business to join the hundreds of other businesses and individuals in downtown who already support a clean, safe and vital downtown by belonging to Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd.!

Heart of Anchorage Awards nomination categories include:

Dena’ina Award — This award will be presented to a team or group for their outstanding leadership, professional excellence, and contributions to Downtown Anchorage.

Chugach Mountain Award — This award will be presented to an employee in an organization or business that has demonstrated outstanding customer service skills and professional excellence.

Spirit of Alaska Award — To recognize volunteers in the Downtown community, this award will be presented to a volunteer that has demonstrated exceptional efforts to support a Downtown business, charity or organization.

George M. Sullivan Award — George M. Sullivan was our mayor in 1975 when the Municipality of Anchorage was formed. In regards to his outstanding leadership we present this award to the manager, executive or owner who demonstrates strong leadership qualities and works well with a team.

Ship Creek Landing Award — When Anchorage was formed, it began in “Tent City” at the mouth of Ship Creek. Many entrepreneurs flocked to this bustling new frontier town to make their money and make their mark on the community. This award goes to the entrepreneur(s) who started a new, innovative downtown business (in the last three years) that has enlivened downtown.

Crush’s owners Robert de Lucia and Scott Anaya created Crush in order to share their love of wine, food, and conversation with Anchorage. Their vision was to give Anchorage a place where people can experiment with a variety of wines, provide a fun place to either hang out for a reasonably priced meal, or sit down to a vintage $1,000 bottle.

Sharing wine is about the conversation; the richness of each glass reminds us of travel, meals, and family. Wine should not have any mystique. It should be accessible to everyone so that we all can enjoy it. Rob and Scott invite you to come down to Crush and spark a conversation with them about the wines that fuel their passion and keep the sparkle in their eyes!

The museum’s Muse restaurant is the hot new hangout for foodies and the after-work set.

For those who remember the former museum café fondly, Muse has kept longtime lunch favorites, such as a smoked salmon BLT, Van’s Caesar salad and the seasonal halibut burger. New offerings include paninis and fresh-cut sweet potato fries. On Saturdays and Sundays, sample new brunch items, such as eggs Benedict with king crab. Eat inside, or on the outdoor patio.

Muse’s evening menu an “amuse” menu, a term derived from amuse bouche, which means “tongue teasers.” Palate pleasers often include selections such as Ahi nachos; tea-smoked duck spring rolls with plum sauce; and venison brochettes with a raspberry-citrus demiglace.

Muse uses fresh ingredients from the Pacific Northwest prepared with Asian and European flair to create imaginative and elegant cuisine. For nearly a decade, Frommer’s Alaska travel guide has lauded the Anchorage Museum’s café for offering “some of the best lunches to be had downtown.”

The Marx Bros.Café has operated the museum’s restaurant and catering since 1999 and operates a second restaurant in downtown Anchorage. The company continues exclusive catering of museum events. Established in 1978, Marx Bros.’ downtown location was one of just three Alaska restaurants to earn the AAA Four Diamond Award in 2008.

Museum members receive a 10 percent discount at Muse.
