& UAA Student Activities Encourage Downtown to help celebrate Homecoming Week
Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd. would like to encourage our Downtown business and property owners to show support for the University of Alaska Anchorage during Homecoming Week from October 6 – 11, 2008.
Downtown businesses are encouraged to offer specials to UAA students, staff and faculty during the week of October 6 – 11. In return, you will receive free on campus advertising (campus fliers, posters and other publicity items that might include an ad in the Campus paper), outreach to new customers and an opportunity to win a “Seawolf Fun Package."
To participate:
- Fill out this form and e-mail or fax it to Student Activities (786-1213) by Wednesday, September 24.
- Place green and gold items in windows/stores announcing support of UAA Homecoming during the week of October 6 - 11. Green and gold items will be supplied by the University if requested.
Road closure at E Street
From the Muni: We will be closing 6th Avenue two times in the next few weeks:
The first closure begins on Friday, September 19 at 8:00pm through Monday, September 22 at 6:00am. Expect a full road closure at the intersection of 6th Avenue and E Street for road and sidewalk improvements. During this closure, access to the JC Penney garage will be at the E-street entrance.
The second closure begins Friday, September 26 at 8:00pm through Monday, September 29 at 6:00am. Expect a full road closure at the intersection of 6th Avenue and E Street for road and sidewalk improvements. During this closure, access to the JC Penney garage will be at the E-street entrance.
Road closure Christensen Drive area
From the Muni: AWWU/Southcentral Construction are set to begin a water upgrade project in the Christensen Drive area this Friday, September 19th. Please view this map for project locations. The project will begin on the west side and work it’s way towards the intersection of E Street and 2nd Avenue.
The expected completion date is around October 15th. There will be limited access for residents and businesses, but no one will be completely closed off.
The AWWU project manager is Jeff Coleman, 266-1143.
Alaska Federation of Natives coming SOON!
The Alaska Federation of Natives will hold its annual convention in Downtown Anchorage October 20 - 25 and will be the first major convention in the new Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center. AFN's annual convention attracts an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 visitors and contributes more than $4 million to the local economy.
The Muni, Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau, Anchorage Economic Development Corporation and ADP, Ltd. welcomes AFN and encourages Downtown businesses to support and participate in AFN:
- Post "Welcome AFN" messages at your place of business, website, reader/marquee boards, media ads and banners.
- Volunteer with your employees to greet & assist delegates (sign up at www.muni.org)
- Attend AFN - the convention and events are open to the public. A particularly fun event is the Alaska Native Arts & Crafts Fair and the Alaska Marketplace Competition ongoing throughout the convention at the Dena'ina Center.
- Arrange a booth at the 2008 Business Expo October 20 and 21 (learn more at www.anpa.net)
