Alaska Railroad Open House Tomorrow!

The Alaska Railroad invites the public to an open house Wednesday, January 20, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Anchorage Historic Depot (411 W. First Avenue.)

The open house will showcase railroad capital projects both local and system wide.  Project managers will be on-hand to answer questions about the Ship Creek Intermodal Transportation Center, Anchorage Rail Capacity Improvements (between Anchorage Rail Yard to Airport Spur), Port MacKenzie Rail Extension, Commuter Rail Study Update and dozens of other capital improvements. The Railroad's new self-propelled bi-level diesel multiple unit (DMU) railcar will also be on display.

Star Wars Tickets On Sale NOW!

Advance tickets to “Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination” are on sale at the Anchorage Museum and online at www.anchoragemuseum.org. The exhibit is open Feb. 10 through April 25 at the Anchorage Museum.

The traveling Star Wars exhibit uses the familiar imagery of the films to teach visitors about real-world scientific progress. Visitors can see more than 80 authentic costumes, models and props from the “Star Wars” films, including Luke Skywalker’s landspeeder and Darth Vader’s menacing black suit.

Tickets are $22 general admission, $18 student/senior/military, $10 for museum members, $8 ages 3 to 12 and free for ages 2 and younger. Prices include general admission to the museum.

Crystal Gallery of Ice

In case you’ve missed them, the sculptures are out in Town Square.  There have been lots of pictures taken of the carvings and some coverage of the carving competition.

Head on down and check them.  But here’s a little tip: they look best when illuminated at night!
