Tourism outlook and questions…

We all know the visitor industry experienced an unusually sparse tourist season in 2009. But what some of us may not know is that the U.S. Travel Association's marketing outlook forum is making some optimistic.

Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau announced they are selling summer business at a better pace than this time last year at their annual report to the community.

One of the big questions that remains is how much of an increase in independent travel the industry can muster to fill the gap left from some 100,000 fewer cruise ship travelers.

… and ATIA tourism marketing bills

From the Alaska Dispatch: In response to a dismal 2009 tourist season and in anticipation of further declines in 2010, the Alaska Travel Industry Association is urging lawmakers to support a corporate tax credit for contributions made to its marketing budget.

HB 167 and the companion bill SB 138 to create such a credit have drawn bipartisan support and are waiting for hearings in the Finance committees.

ADP Seeks Candidates for Board of Directors

Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd. (ADP) is seeking members who are interested in running for a seat on the Board of Directors Board.

Directors are elected at the annual meeting of the membership in late March. Additionally, any appointed Director(s) shall stand for a vote of confirmation at the annual meeting.

Directors serve two-year terms. Board meetings occur on the 4th Thursday of every month.
