“We’re In!” Alaska Statehood Celebration & Hero Games

Join us for the Alaska Statehood Celebration on June 27th 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Click here for a map of the event.

4th Avenue will be closed from C Street to H Street for a 5 block street festival featuring 3 performance stages: Blue & Gold Main Stage, The Mickey Mouse Stage, and Heroes Stage. The streets will be filled with street performers, the G Street Art Fair, an antique car show, outdoor cafes and sidewalk sales from Downtown merchants.

Additionally, there will a special Children’s Area that will include 1950s science fun with the Imaginarium (Mr. Potato Head, silly putty, bubbles, hula hoops and more), a GIANT sandbox and face painting.

The "Hero Games"

The centerpiece of the Alaska Statehood Celebration will be the "Hero Games," a friendly competition between the following teams of five, one of whom must be female:

  • U.S. Army
  • U.S. Air Force
  • U.S. Air Force Reserves
  • U.S. Air National Guard
  • U.S. Marines
  • Anchorage Police Department
  • Alaska State Troopers
  • Anchorage Fire Department
  • AMST First Aid Team

The Hero Games will take place on 4th Avenue between E and C Streets from 12:00pm to 5:00pm with competitions meant to be both challenging and entertaining, including:

  • Obstacle Course
  • Hose carry, Kaiser sled, Cat Rescue, Donut eating, Trooper Car tire change, low crawl
  • Water Balloon Volleyball
  • Tricycle Race
  • Tug of War
  • Litter Carry Relay
  • Bucket Brigade
  • Vehicle Tow

It will also feature rescue dog and police dog demonstrations. There will be a street dance from 5:30pm to 8:30pm following the Hero Games.

WHAT IS ADP?

Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd. is a 501 (c) 6 non-profit entity charged with management of the Downtown Improvement District (DID). ADP provides clean and safe services throughout the DID, provides marketing and event promotion throughout the DID, and serves as an advocate for the business and property owners within the DID on issues affecting downtown.
