Muse
The museum’s Muse restaurant is the hot new hangout for foodies and the after-work set.
For those who remember the former museum café fondly, Muse has kept longtime lunch favorites, such as a smoked salmon BLT, Van’s Caesar salad and the seasonal halibut burger. New offerings include paninis and fresh-cut sweet potato fries. On Saturdays and Sundays, sample new brunch items, such as eggs Benedict with king crab. Eat inside, or on the outdoor patio.
Muse’s evening menu an “amuse” menu, a term derived from amuse bouche, which means “tongue teasers.” Palate pleasers often include selections such as Ahi nachos; tea-smoked duck spring rolls with plum sauce; and venison brochettes with a raspberry-citrus demiglace.
Muse uses fresh ingredients from the Pacific Northwest prepared with Asian and European flair to create imaginative and elegant cuisine. For nearly a decade, Frommer’s Alaska travel guide has lauded the Anchorage Museum’s café for offering “some of the best lunches to be had downtown.”
The Marx Bros.Café has operated the museum’s restaurant and catering since 1999 and operates a second restaurant in downtown Anchorage. The company continues exclusive catering of museum events. Established in 1978, Marx Bros.’ downtown location was one of just three Alaska restaurants to earn the AAA Four Diamond Award in 2008.
