Heart of Anchorage Awards Vision & Goals
- The intent of the Heart of Anchorage Awards is to pay tribute, honor and celebrate outstanding service and achievements of individuals, businesses and organizations in the downtown work community.
- This awards program recognizes employees of businesses and organizations, from the janitor to the CEO, that help create an exciting and vibrant downtown, as well as an inviting destination for visitors, residents and the downtown community of workers.
- Employees, managers, organizations and businesses that best symbolize the highest quality service are given the opportunity to be acknowledged through the nomination and award process.
- All nominees are judged on performance that goes above and beyond normal job responsibilities with outstanding or unusual service to the visitor, customer and community.
Judging Process
Nomination packets will be reviewed and a panel of judges will select the winners. Judges will be directed to base their selections solely on the information provided in each nomination. The more complete the nomination packets the better chance the nominee has to be selected as a winner!
The Heart of Anchorage Awards: How They Work
This awards program is open to anyone who wishes to recognize an employee, volunteer, manager, business owner or organization leader for his or her outstanding performance. The only criterion is that the nominee must be employed with a member business or be a member in good standing with Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd. Want to nominate someone who works for a non- member? Encourage that business to join the hundreds of other businesses and individuals in downtown who already support a clean, safe and vital downtown by belonging to Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd.!
Heart of Anchorage Awards nomination categories include:
- Dena’ina Award — This award will be presented to a team or group for their outstanding leadership, professional excellence, and contributions to Downtown Anchorage.
- Chugach Mountain Award — This award will be presented to an employee in an organization or business that has demonstrated outstanding customer service skills and professional excellence.
- Spirit of Alaska Award — To recognize volunteers in the Downtown community, this award will be presented to a volunteer that has demonstrated exceptional efforts to support a Downtown business, charity or organization.
- George M. Sullivan Award — George M. Sullivan was our mayor in 1975 when the Municipality of Anchorage was formed. In regards to his outstanding leadership we present this award to the manager, executive or owner who demonstrates strong leadership qualities and works well with a team.
- Ship Creek Landing Award — When Anchorage was formed, it began in “Tent City” at the mouth of Ship Creek. Many entrepreneurs flocked to this bustling new frontier town to make their money and make their mark on the community. This award goes to the entrepreneur(s) who started a new, innovative downtown business (in the last three years) that has enlivened downtown.
