Cake Studio

Can something with the word “cake” in the title be bad?  (Fruit cake aside) I think not!

If you know me or have read any of my blogs you know I’m proud of my strong attachment to sugar in most any form.  You can imagine my glee when I heard a bakery was opening right here in downtown!

Well yesterday my wonderful boss announced the opening of Cake Studio Bakery & Boutique by bringing in samples of chocolate.  MMMM!  They make their own chocolates and many other delights.

I showed great reserve and waited until the first chance I had to run down 4th Avenue to see the bounty for myself.  Cake Studio is located next to the 4th Avenue Theatre on 4th between F and G Streets.

Do you know what this means?  I work literally 2 and a half blocks from a bakery!  I LOVE working in downtown, but this is icing on the cake…if you’ll forgive the pun.

Cake Studio makes cakes, but they also make fresh cookies, scones, croissants, cupcakes, coffee cakes and cheese cakes, just to name a few choices.  They have daily and monthly specials.

The specials are listed on their website www.alaskacakestudio.com.

Having sampled a few of their chocolates (peppermint, peanut butter, toffee and fig, all yummy) I wanted to try some of the baked goods.  They have many wonderful varieties of cheesecake that looked and sounded wonderful, but dairy is not my friend so I stuck with cakes.  I tried a lemon lavender cupcake and a lingonberry coffee cake.

I brought the delights back to the office and in an act of great restraint shared them with my co-workers.  There wasn’t a crumb left.  We all agreed that both cakes were wonderful.

I can honestly say everything I have tried from Cake Studio has been fantastic.  I am still waffling about whether the lemon lavender cupcake was better or the lingonberry coffee cake.  I may have to try a few more samples to be sure…

There are so many options I have my work cut out for me but I’m sure I’ll be able to sample a number of different goodies as I count down to the New Year.  See how many you can try before the New Year too.

Stop by the bakery and see for yourself.   Nothing beats fresh baked goodies made by a chef who knows what they are doing.
