Humpy’s

April 7, 2009 Written by: Ruth

There are some places downtown that are old favorites and I just take them for granted.  Humpy’s is one of those.  It is fun to try out the new places, but if you want to be sure you are getting good food or go for an old favorite Humpy’s is a sure bet.

If I’m in the mood for a halibut burger I can try all the other restaurants downtown, but I am never satisfied until I get the classic halibut burger at Humpy’s.

My problem is they have so many good things to eat, but I have to always get the classic halibut burger or I crave it until I do.  There is just something about the halibut.  It’s never dry, it’s consistently tasty.  The thing that makes it special is that it isn’t anything special it is just always perfect.

I have solved this problem by getting Humpy’s for take out.  Then I don’t sit in there thinking about the halibut.  The hummus, the hamburger, the crab cakes…all good.  My latest find is the toasted sub deal.  They make wonderful toasted subs, but they don’t serve them for lunch.  Since I usually am just there for lunch I was missing out until Winter Wed. specials appeared on our web site and I found out this secret.  On Wednesdays through the end of April you can buy one and get one free!  Seriously!

They take longer to cook so aren’t a good lunch meal anyway, so they just make them after 5:30.  My preference is to get one & enjoy it with a beer and a friend, but I have to let the dogs out after work so I order one to go and take it home.  The subs are big meals.  I had it for two meals, but my roommate ate it all at once.  We both agreed it was wonderful and more than worth the 20 minute wait!

You can’t lose eating at Humpy’s it is consistently good.  One of these days I’ll even eat something besides the halibut for lunch.  I’ve never had a bad meal and never eaten with anyone who didn’t love what they got.

It’s nice to have an old stand by to eat where you just know it will always be good.
