Kobuk Coffee Company

Whether you have a real sweet tooth or like the occasional sweet treat you really need to know about Kobuk Coffee Company.  A warm, welcoming store in the historic Downtown Kimball Co. building at 5th and E, Kobuk has a baking genius hidden in the back.

A co-worker informed me that the donuts at Kobuk were not to be missed.  I hate to miss out on a good sweet treat so I had to rush out and see for myself.  I have been drawn in ever since.  The problem is that not only are the donuts out of this world good, but so is the cake and the lemon meringue pie and the butter pecan cookies!

On my latest visit I had to sample a little of several sweet treats to be sure to give you a good overview.  The lemon meringue pie is a tangy lemon delight with some of the tastiest meringue I’ve had the pleasure of licking off a spoon.  I got the lemon square just to compare with the pie.  The same tangy lemon, but making it into a bar adds a cookie like texture that was just as enjoyable.

The final sample of the day is a peanut bar.  The crunchy, peanutty goodness is a nice balance to the tangy lemon I’ve been eating.  Wow!  If I weren’t about to go in to a sugar coma I could eat a lot more of this!

I am a sugar eater at the “ready for a 12 step program” level of eating, but no matter how much you like sugar it is made in to magic at the back of Kobuk Coffee Company.  Enjoy the wonderful tea or some coffee, but don’t miss out on the wonderful baked goods!  Cake, cookies, donuts, pie…you can’t go wrong.
