Muffin Man/Cafe 817

Do you know the Muffin Man?  You really should.  He is well worth knowing.

The Muffin Man, also known as Cafe 817 because it is located at 817 W. 6th Avenue, makes an extraordinary sandwich.   I understand they have good soups and salads too, but right now I’m all about good meat and bread and Muffin Man has plenty of both.   Sandwiches are piled high with meat and then decorated with fresh tomatoes, lettuce and other goodies.  I had the roast beef sandwich boasting roast beef cooked on site and if you ask for it fresh horseradish.  The sandwich was served on a fresh baguette and piled so high with beef and goodies that I had to work a little to get my mouth around it and keep everything in the bread.  This was a two napkin meal.

My friend had never visited Muffin Man before so she was impressed with the fresh, flavorful salad and the size of the sandwich.  A 1/2 sandwich is a good meal, a full is two good meals.  She enjoyed the turkey and cranberry sandwich and the hearty fresh salad and was excited to have enough left for dinner.  The third friend in our party had soup and salad and enjoyed her choice as well.  This was a hearty portion too.  There were two choices of soup made fresh daily.  Both options looked good so it was a hard choice.

One bite and it is obvious this place knows quality and quantity.  The cookies are wonderful here too, but I was too full from my sandwich to eat one this time.  It isn’t often you will hear me say that!

There is variety and quality galore on the menu at Muffin Man.  Even if that song runs through your head for days after you eat there you will want to go back again and again.   I know I have.
