No they aren’t mutants…

Early last week, workers installed several Rachelle Dowdy sculptures in the Key Bank Plaza in Downtown. For those of you who don’t know where it is, the Key Bank Plaza is at the corner of 5th Avenue and F Street, right in front of – you guessed it – the Key Bank building.

Anyway, the sculptures are interesting interpretations of the animal world juxtaposed against the human world. Or, in plain English, sculptures of human bodies with no arms and giant animal heads.

While the sculptures are a bit unusual – the giant moose scares me every time I walk by it – they are certainly a welcome addition to Downtown. The largely unused Plaza used to seem so barren. Plus I have already witnessed tourists taking pictures of each other standing next to the sculptures.

I encourage everyone to come Downtown and examine the sculptures for themselves. Or you can just look at these photos that I snapped this morning.
