Two Spirits Gallery
The Two Spirits Gallery is a wonderful art gallery in Downtown Anchorage.

I walk past it every day on my way in to work, and find myself having to pause to look at some painting that catches my eye.  I finally had to step inside & see it all.  Not only does this gallery have a broad array of beautiful Alaska Native art from ivory carvings to beaded jewelry, but the walls are filled with painted hides, oil paintings & water colors.

This gallery also has a mission.  All the art work is done by Alaska Native artists in recovery.  Talented artists in various stages of battling substance abuse.  The gallery helps connect them with treatment options as well as other social services needs and sells their art work in the process.  Some of the artists have been in recovery for years and for others it is a day to day battle.  Artists must be sober to be on the premises.

The Two Spirits Gallery is located at 333 W. 4th Avenue in the 4th Avenue Marketplace. (Formerly the Post Office Mall.)  Now a light blue building the 4th Avenue Marketplace also houses a workshop where art can be created.  Many days you can see artists at work in the shop.

The whole program seems like such a nice way to support artists and the art work is breathtaking.  Pieces change regularly, I assume because they sell, and I love looking in the window to see what is new.  The light wood floors & the lay out of the gallery are very inviting.  I found the setting relaxing and the art some of the best I’ve seen in the city.

If you are interested in art make sure to stop at Two Spirits Gallery.
